Clinic:  Salud y Paz currently operates two health and dental clinics that primarily serve the Mayan population in the Quiche Department.   71% of the rural Mayan population lives in EXTREME poverty, with an income of less than US$1.00/day, or approximately $360/year.  Since August 2001 the clinics have been open full time. They have now documented well over 100,000 patient visits and estimate they have provided millions of dollars in medical/dental services.

Profile: Namaste Direct

Namaste Direct is committed to alleviating poverty in rural communities of Guatemala by providing impoverished women entrepreneurs with microcredit loans along with a personal business mentor, vocational training workshops and informal business education.

Conventional wisdom has it that there are four barriers to escaping poverty (defined as less than $2 a day income per household member).

Profile: Episcopal Diocese of North Dakota

 

For 10 days in July, a group representing the Episcopal Diocese of North Dakota works with local Episcopal partners, Padre Dr. Roberto and the members of San Marcos Parish (St. Mark’s) in Quetzaltenango (Xela), Guatemala.

Dr. Wilson’s Specialty is ophthalmology, particularly pediatric eye cancer.
