Profile: Food For The Poor

food for the poor

Food For The Poor, the largest international relief and development organization in the nation, does much more than feed millions of hungry poor in 17 countries of the Caribbean and Latin America. They provide emergency relief assistance, clean water, medicines, educational materials, homes, support for orphans and the aged, skills training and micro-enterprise development assistance, with more than 96 percent of all donations going directly to programs that help the poor.

Their mission is to link the church of the First World with the church of the Third World in a manner that helps both the materially poor and the poor in spirit.  The materially poor are served by local churches, clergy and lay leaders who have been empowered and supplied with goods by Food For The Poor.   The poor in spirit are renewed by their relationship with and service to the poor through our direct ministry of teaching, encouragement and prayer.

In Guatemala recently, Food For The Poor donors have invested in soy product factories to supply orphanages and day care centers with a nutritious dairy-alternative, and to make affordable soy products available to surrounding communities.
