Coordinating Shipments to Guate – UPDATED JUNE 3

Please click here to read about shipping needs for PlumpyNut.

This is in no way meant to discourage anyone from coordinating shipments to Guatemala, but do please keep in mind that only financial contributions will address the immediate, life-threatening conditions that are being faced at the moment (malnutrition, dysentery, etc.).  If you would like to see a list of efficient organizations at work right now, that you can support, please see http://www.cliniclink.org/2010/05/pacayaagatha-ways-to-help/.

For you folks who want to collect non-medical supplies – this is information from Sharon at Mayan Families.  Mayan Familes serves the Lake Atitlan region, however I am sure that this list is universal to all of the affected areas:

Blankets
Tarps (many people lost their roof or have large holes in them)
Ponchos
Shoes
Kids clothing (sizes 4-10ish)
Sheets and towels
Button down sweaters

If you would like to focus on the Lake Region as your recipient, please contact zuletashipment@yahoo.com.  Sarah is experienced at these kinds of collections and shipments, and will be happy to advise you along the way.

If you would like to focus on another region (such as the areas surrounding Antigua), give me a little more time to find you a contact person.

Check out the right hand side of the site, to find a list of collection points, and their destinations.  If your information needs to be on there, just shoot me an email, or leave a comment here.

Also, I am still working on a list of needed medical supplies, so stay tuned for that!

i am coordinating an emergency shipoment to Mayan Families through Transportes Zuleta. They pick up from me in NM at the end of the month … they usually (without storm complications) reach MF in 2-3 weeks. Therefore, interested participants/donors need to to ship (or have shippped) their donations to me for arrival by June 20th. I will then repack the donations into large overseas transport boxes; participants’ share of the shipping costs will be $17/cubic foot. I can be reached at zuletashipment@yahoo.com for specific details on where to ship and how to calculate your shipping cost. I will take the liberty of saying stay tuned to this website for a list of the most immediate needs; however I dare say clothes, shoes, bedding, blankets, tarps and rope, and OTC medications are probably very needed

  3. This, per John B. at Transitions: There is a great need for shelter boxes, blankets, footwear, clothes, and food

  4. I would like to start one here in MI. Can someone tell me the best way to go about this?

    Thank you!

  5. Lisa, if you start one in Michigan – please let me know.

Where are you located? I’m in Saginaw.
