The Ushahidi Platform allows anyone to gather distributed data via SMS (text), email or web and visualize it on a map or timeline. Their goal is to create the simplest way of aggregating information from the public for use in crisis response. The group has produced an opensource product called CrowdMap, which is currently in its beta-stage. It has enormous potential for gathering information during a crisis or disaster.
The following video is a presentation by Ushahidi advisory board member Patrick Meier, describing Ushahidi and CrowdMap. I would love to form a small group to explore this product, and to discuss its possible uses for Guatemala. If you are interested, please leave a comment below, or contact me at Exchange@ClinicLink.org.
Discussion would most likely take place in English and Spanish on an internet discussion forum such as Google groups.
For more information about the company and product, visit the Ushahidi or Crowdmap websites.
I’m happy to participate. This is a brilliant idea
Amazing, and definitely needed in Guatemala. The media events about mudslide issues in Guatemala have slowed down, but the needs are still out there. Ushahidi’s platform would keep communication flowing even after the press pulls out.
Excelent!!!, I need to participate. Is only in English?
Great idea !
I will be glad to participate.
